The Greek resistance fighter and artist Maria Ferla Beikou (1925-2011) participated in the Greek Civil War in the armed section of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE). After the end of the civil war, and the defeat of the DSE, Greek fighters became political refugees in Eastern European countries. Maria Beikou was a political refugee in Moscow and at the same time her husband Georgoulas Beikos was a political prisoner in Greece.
